DRIE - Dehydration Recognition

in our Elders

DRIE publications and other outputs

We have published most (but not all) of the papers about DRIE in open access journals (these are journals where everyone can read the papers freely, even if they don’t pay for the journal). If you would like to read one of these papers but cannot get hold of it easily please email Lee (l.hooper@uea.ac.uk) or write to her (Lee Hooper, Norwich Medical School, University of East Anglia, Norwich NR4 7TJ, England telling her your address) and ask for a copy. Lee will be happy to email or post you the paper.

How many and which older people are dehydrated?

DRIE has helped us to understand how many older adults living in UK residential care are dehydrated, and also which are more likely to be dehydrated than others.

How to assess how much older people drink: the Drinks Diary

Florence Jimoh worked with us, while completing her master’s course, to develop a Drinks Diary, which older care home residents can use to record their own drinks. The paper describing her research, as well as the Drinks Diary itself, are freely available to read and use.

Website: Florence has developed a Drinks Diary, useful to help older care home residents record their drinks. You can read about the Drinks Diary in the publication (see below) and download the Drinks Diary from: http://tiny.cc/w0m0mx

Training

Diane and Lee have sent out written information on hydration in older people, and on the DRIE study to all residents, relatives and staff in care homes taking part in the study. We have also held discussions, talks and training on drinking and hydration in the care homes we have approached. These have included individual and group sessions with residents, with relatives and with staff.

If you are interested in training on hydration for care staff please contact Lee (l.hooper@uea.ac.uk).
